Ananda Lewis, a former MTV VJ, recently made headlines after revealing her inspiring journey of overcoming cancer. The Los Angeles native was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in October of 2020 and was given only two to three years to live by doctors. However, Lewis refused to let this diagnosis defeat her and has continued to beat the odds, thriving in her fourth year since the diagnosis.
Lewis first rose to prominence in the 1990s as a television host and personality, starting with BET’s Teen Summit before eventually becoming a VJ on MTV. Her push for more live television and deeper interviews inspired the network to give their VJs more of a platform. Lewis eventually scored her own talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show, but it was canceled after one season due to the World Trade Center bombings.

In recent years, Lewis resurfaced on TLC’s While You Were Out in 2019 before revealing her cancer diagnosis. She has since become a health enthusiast, recently undergoing a major weight loss transformation while shifting to a healthier lifestyle.
In an interview with Tamron Hall, Lewis discussed her health struggles and how her own mother’s battle with cancer helped prepare her for her own journey. She also shared her motivation for sharing her diagnosis publicly, feeling it was her responsibility to let others know what kind of obstacles could await them.
