President Trump Responds to Tragic Washington, D.C., Plane Crash

President Donald Trump has spoken out about the devastating plane crash near Reagan Washington National Airport, which occurred on January 29, 2025. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump expressed his thoughts on the incident, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation and questioning how it could have been prevented.

The crash involved a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet, operating as American Airlines Flight 5342, and a U.S. Army Sikorsky H-60 helicopter. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the collision happened as the plane was approaching Runway 33. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation, with support from the FAA.

In his first post, Trump noted that the PSA Airlines jet was on a routine and accurate approach to the airport. He questioned why the helicopter, which had been flying directly toward the plane for some time, did not take evasive action. “The plane’s lights were blazing, and it was a CLEAR NIGHT,” Trump wrote. “Why didn’t the helicopter turn or go up or down? Why didn’t the control tower give clearer instructions?” He concluded by stating that the tragedy could have been avoided, calling it “NOT GOOD!!!”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also addressed the crash, confirming that President Trump had been briefed on the situation. She expressed the administration’s condolences and urged the public to follow guidance from law enforcement as rescue operations continued.

As search and recovery efforts persist in the icy waters of the Potomac River, the nation mourns the lives lost in this heartbreaking incident.
