Why Did My Dog Come Home with a Tattoo?

Two weeks away, and my dog had a new tattoo. No, I’m not joking. When I picked her up from the 24/7 daycare facility, I noticed a tiny blue mark near her belly. Confused and concerned, I started digging for answers.

Turns out, some vets tattoo pets after spaying or neutering to prevent unnecessary future surgeries. But my dog was already spayed—so why the ink? The daycare insisted it was just “standard protocol,” but I never signed off on it.

I wasn’t the only one caught off guard. Online pet forums revealed similar stories—owners discovering tattoos they never approved. Some were for medical reasons, others for identification. But consent matters. Pets aren’t property to be marked without permission.

Before confronting the daycare, I gathered evidence: photos, vet records, and their own policy documents. When asked, they couldn’t provide a clear answer. Now, I’m spreading awareness so other pet owners can avoid this surprise.
