Visiting her husband in prison, Sarah couldn’t help but notice how exhausted he looked. Dark circles under his eyes, slumped shoulders – he seemed completely worn out. This puzzled her. Weren’t prisoners supposed to have plenty of rest between occasional chores and yard time?
Concerned, she approached the correctional officer before leaving. “You’re working my husband too hard,” she insisted. “He looks completely drained!”
The officer burst out laughing. “Ma’am, your husband is our laziest inmate. All he does is sleep, eat, and stay in his cell. We can’t get him to do anything!”
Sarah left more confused than ever. If he wasn’t being overworked, why did he look so tired? Then she remembered his odd comment about “working the night shift.” The pieces suddenly clicked together – but the truth was far from what she expected.
