The aviation world is in mourning after a devastating Air India flight crashed just minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 241 of the 242 people on board. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for London Gatwick, went down near BJ Medical College, leaving a scene of destruction and unimaginable grief.
Among the passengers were 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. Miraculously, 40-year-old British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh survived the crash, escaping through an emergency exit. He remains hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to recover.
The aircraft’s black box has been recovered, revealing the pilot’s frantic final words. Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and co-pilot Clive Kundar radioed air traffic control, reporting a sudden loss of power. “No thrust… I am not able to lift,” Sabharwal said as the plane struggled at just 650 feet before plummeting.
Investigators are now analyzing the flight data to determine whether mechanical failure played a role. Boeing has pledged full cooperation, while grieving families from multiple countries gather in Ahmedabad, struggling to process the tragedy. The sole survivor’s family described his miraculous escape as nothing short of a miracle.
