Blind Date Backfires When Woman Brings 23 Relatives to Dinner

A Chinese woman’s unconventional approach to testing her blind date’s generosity spectacularly backfired in Zhejiang province recently. Miss Zhang, hoping to assess Mr. Lui’s potential as a provider, surprised him by inviting 23 family members to what was supposed to be a romantic dinner. The shocked businessman found himself facing a table of two dozen strangers and a bill that would eventually total 20,000 yuan ($3,100).

As the meal progressed and the costs mounted, tensions rose at the restaurant. When the final bill arrived, Mr. Lui made a quick exit, leaving Zhang and her extended family to cover the extravagant tab. The situation escalated further when Zhang took legal action, attempting to force her date to pay a portion of the bill. The court ultimately ruled that Mr. Lui should pay only 1,400 yuan, placing most of the responsibility on Zhang for orchestrating the expensive gathering.

This unusual dating strategy has sparked debate about appropriate ways to evaluate potential partners. While understanding a date’s financial situation might be important to some, experts suggest there are more constructive approaches than surprise group tests that put someone on the spot.
