Darren thought marriage would be the start of a beautiful partnership, but he didn’t expect money to become such a big issue—especially when his wife’s family had so much more of it than he did.
The problem started with their wedding. Darren’s father-in-law covered all the expenses, which should have been a relief. But things took an uncomfortable turn during their honeymoon when Darren found himself in economy class while his wife sat in first. When he questioned it, she simply said, “Dad says he’s not your money machine.”
Hurt and humiliated, Darren walked off the plane. Later, his father-in-law called, furious. “I gave you a dream wedding and honeymoon for free,” he snapped. “Is this how you repay my daughter? I’ll support her lifestyle, but not you.”
Darren refused to accept being treated as lesser because of his income. He declined to join a later flight, and his wife returned home to talk things out. Now, he’s left wondering: Was he wrong to stand his ground?
