The devastating Texas floods have claimed another heartbreaking victim – 9-year-old Janie Hunt, cousin to the Kansas City Chiefs’ owning family. Tavia Hunt, wife of team owner Clark Hunt, shared the tragic news on Instagram, revealing their family’s personal loss amid the statewide disaster that has killed at least 82 people, including 28 children.

“Our hearts are shattered,” Tavia wrote alongside photos of bright-eyed Janie, the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon William Herbert Hunt. The young girl was attending Camp Mystic, a historic Christian summer camp on the Guadalupe River, when floodwaters rose a terrifying 30 feet in the dead of night.
The camp’s beloved 70-year-old director, Richard “Dick” Eastland, also perished while trying to save campers. Just days before the tragedy, the camp had posted joyful videos of children singing and dancing – a stark contrast to the devastation that would follow.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared a statewide day of prayer as rescue teams continue searching with helicopters and drones. Over 850 people have been pulled to safety, some found clinging to trees for survival. Yet questions remain about delayed flood warnings and whether federal budget cuts hampered emergency response efforts.
