Rock Legend Mick Ralphs Passes Away at 81

The music world mourns the loss of Mick Ralphs, the legendary guitarist and founding member of both Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, who passed away at the age of 81. Though he had faced health struggles since suffering a stroke in 2016, his influence on rock music remains timeless.

Ralphs’ death was announced by Bad Company, sparking an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow musicians. His final performance with the band took place in 2016 at London’s O2 Arena—an emotional farewell that now feels even more poignant. This November, he was set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Bad Company, an honor many felt was long overdue.

Paul Rodgers, his longtime bandmate and friend, shared a heartfelt tribute: “My heart just hit the ground. Mick was a brilliant guitarist, a gifted songwriter, and, above all, a wonderful friend.”

Born in Herefordshire, England, Ralphs was drawn to blues and rock early on. He co-founded Mott the Hoople in the late 1960s, helping shape the glam rock movement with hits like All the Young Dudes. But it was with Bad Company that he truly cemented his legacy, crafting anthems like Can’t Get Enough and Feel Like Makin’ Love—songs that still resonate today.

Despite his success, Ralphs remained humble, often deflecting praise. “I never wanted to be a guitar god,” he once said. “I just wanted to play good music.” His understated brilliance and soulful riffs left an indelible mark on rock, ensuring his music will live on for generations.
