“Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Renowned Figure Skaters and Coaches”

The figure skating world is mourning the loss of two beloved former champions, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who were among the passengers on the ill-fated American Airlines Flight 5342. The plane collided with a Black Hawk helicopter over Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night, crashing into the Potomac River. The couple, who were returning from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Kansas, had recently expressed their pride in their son, Maxim Naumov, a rising star in the sport.

Maxim, 23, was not on the flight, having left Wichita earlier in the week. His parents, who were also his coaches, had shared a heartfelt message on social media just days before the tragedy, praising his performance at the championships. “We are proud of you, Maxim,” they wrote. The young skater had finished fourth in the competition, a testament to his dedication and talent.

Evgenia and Vadim, both former world champions in pairs skating, had moved to the U.S. in 1998 to coach. They were traveling with a group of young skaters when the accident occurred. The collision, which happened as the plane approached Reagan Washington National Airport, claimed the lives of all on board, including four crew members and 60 passengers.

The figure skating community has rallied around Maxim, offering support and condolences. Fans and fellow skaters have taken to social media to honor his parents’ legacy and express their grief. As the investigation continues, the world remembers Evgenia and Vadim not only as champions on the ice but as devoted parents and mentors who inspired countless young athletes.
