Elon Musk’s Son Steals the Spotlight at the White House—Here’s How to Say His Unique Name

Elon Musk’s youngest son, X Æ A-12, made headlines recently when he accompanied his father to the White House. The four-year-old, affectionately called “Lil X,” has a name that has puzzled many since his birth in 2020. Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, and his former partner, musician Grimes, chose the unconventional name, which Musk explained is pronounced “X Ash A Twelve.”

During a 2020 interview, Musk shared that the name holds special meaning. The “X” represents the unknown, “Æ” is pronounced “Ash,” and “A-12” refers to the Archangel 12 aircraft, a precursor to the SR-71, which Musk called “the coolest plane ever.” While the name is unique, it has become a talking point whenever Musk’s family is in the public eye.

At a recent press conference with former President Donald Trump, Lil X stole the show with his antics. While Musk answered questions, his son made faces, picked his nose, and even wiped his hands on the historic Resolute Desk. Social media users were quick to react, with some joking about how the toddler’s behavior might have annoyed Trump.

Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, later addressed the incident on social media, expressing surprise that her son was at the event. She stated, “He should not be in public like this,” but added that she was relieved he behaved politely. The couple, who split in 2022 after four years together, share three other children, each with equally unique names.
