Goldie Hawn’s Emotional Oscars Moment

The 2025 Oscars were filled with unforgettable moments, from Halle Berry’s playful revenge on Adrien Brody to Conan O’Brien’s bold remarks about former President Donald Trump. But one moment stood out for its raw emotion and vulnerability.

Goldie Hawn, the 79-year-old Oscar-winning actress, took the stage with Andrew Garfield to present the award for Best Animated Feature Film. However, her speech took an unexpected turn when she revealed a heartbreaking health struggle.

Midway through her remarks, Hawn paused, unable to read the teleprompter. “I was so fortunate to make movies… and make people laugh,” she said. “It’s okay if some people didn’t.”

She then turned to Garfield and admitted, “Can you read that, darling? I am unable to read that.” Hawn went on to share, “I am totally blind. I mean, I am,” before explaining that she has cataracts.

Cataracts, which cause cloudy patches on the eye’s lens, can lead to vision impairment and even blindness if left untreated. While they can affect people of all ages, they are more common in older adults due to the natural breakdown of proteins in the lens.

Garfield, ever the supportive co-presenter, calmly reassured her, “OK, I’ve got you,” and continued with the ceremony.

The moment was both heartbreaking and heartwarming, especially when Garfield shared how Hawn’s work had profoundly impacted his late mother. “You’ve provided us with joyful films,” he said. “You have repeatedly improved our mood and given us the impression that everything is well.”

Hawn’s candid revelation and Garfield’s heartfelt tribute made their presentation one of the most memorable moments of the night.
