Weightlifter’s Shocking Diagnosis After Ignoring “Minor” Symptoms

Scott Hinch was the picture of health—a 31-year-old weightlifter who took pride in his active lifestyle. But in August 2019, his life took a devastating turn when he suffered a seizure on his way to work. Rushed to Nevill Hall Hospital in Wales, he was placed in a medically induced coma for four days. When he woke up, doctors delivered crushing news: a grade 2 astrocytoma, a type of brain tumor. His prognosis? Just 3 to 5 years to live.

Looking back, Scott realizes he had missed warning signs—frequent headaches and nosebleeds—which he dismissed as dehydration or overexertion. “I chalked it up to long hours at work and intense gym sessions,” he admits. Even an optician’s visit failed to detect anything unusual.

Emergency surgery removed part of the tumor, followed by weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Though initially successful, the cancer returned in 2023, forcing Scott into additional rounds of grueling treatment. Today, he lives month-to-month, battling relentless fatigue and relying on his mother, Fiona, as his full-time caregiver.

Now, Fiona and her sister are raising funds for brain tumor research, hoping to spare other families the same heartbreak. “We need better treatments—and ultimately, a cure,” Fiona says. For Scott, every day is a fight, but he remains grateful to still be here.
