A new bill introduced by Republican Representative Brandon Gill of Texas has sparked a national conversation. The legislation, dubbed the Golden Age Act of 2025, aims to replace Benjamin Franklin’s portrait on the $100 bill with one of former President Donald Trump. Gill, a first-term congressman, believes this change would honor Trump’s contributions to what he calls the “Golden Age of America.”
If passed, the bill would require the Treasury Secretary to release a new design by December 31, 2026, with all $100 bills featuring Trump’s face by the end of 2028. Gill has defended the proposal, stating that Trump has done more than anyone to bring about a new era of prosperity for the country. To promote the idea, Gill shared a mockup of the proposed bill on social media, captioning it, “Let’s make history.”
However, the proposal faces significant hurdles. Current laws prohibit living individuals from appearing on U.S. currency, making it unlikely the bill will pass. Despite this, Gill and his co-sponsor, Representative Troy Nehls, also from Texas, remain undeterred. They argue that Trump’s efforts to secure borders, renegotiate trade deals, and prioritize American energy independence deserve recognition.
This isn’t the only bill aimed at honoring Trump. Recently, Representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina proposed creating a $250 bill featuring Trump’s portrait, citing the need to address “Bidenflation” and honor Trump’s economic policies. Meanwhile, other Republicans have floated ideas like adding Trump’s likeness to Mount Rushmore or making his birthday a federal holiday.
While these proposals have garnered support from some conservatives, they’ve also faced criticism. Many Americans view the current currency designs as a cherished tradition and are resistant to change. Whether or not these bills gain traction, they highlight the ongoing efforts by some lawmakers to cement Trump’s legacy in unconventional ways.
