Joy Behar’s Love Story: Why She Waited 29 Years to Marry Her Younger Partner

Joy Behar, the beloved co-host of The View, has lived a life full of love, laughter, and a few surprises. After her first marriage ended, she found love again—but this time, she took her sweet time before walking down the aisle. Nearly three decades after meeting her now-husband, retired teacher Steve Janowitz, the couple finally tied the knot in 2011.

At 82, Behar is still a vibrant presence on television, with no plans to retire anytime soon. She has openly joked about her long career, including her brief departure from The View in 2013, which she now looks back on with humor. “I was happy to be fired,” she once said, admitting she was simply tired of the show at the time.

But while her career has been a constant, her love life took a more patient path. She and Janowitz, who is seven years her junior, dated for 29 years before deciding to marry. Their wedding was a simple affair—matching black outfits and all—but their relationship is anything but ordinary.

Like any couple, they have their disagreements, and for them, it usually comes down to one thing: driving. Behar has joked that Janowitz is a notorious backseat driver, always critiquing her skills behind the wheel. She even shared a funny story about accidentally crashing into a farm stand after forgetting to put her car in park.

Despite the occasional tension, their bond remains strong. Behar has said that what keeps them together is their shared sense of humor and mutual respect. After all these years, they still enjoy each other’s company—even if they sometimes need a break after too much time together, like during a recent 10-day trip to Italy.

Beyond her marriage, Behar is also a proud mother and grandmother. Her daughter, Eve, is an artist, and her grandson, Luca, is now a teenager. Family remains a cornerstone of her life, just as much as her career and her enduring love story with Janowitz.
