The heartbreaking case of 10-year-old Sara Sharif shocked the world when her father, Urfan Sharif, confessed to her brutal murder in August 2023. The details that emerged during the trial painted a horrifying picture – Sara had endured nearly 70 separate injuries, including burns, fractures, and bite marks, during what the judge called “a campaign of torture” lasting two years.

After fleeing to Pakistan following the crime, Sharif and two family members were eventually extradited to face justice. In December 2024, Sharif received a life sentence with a minimum of 40 years, while his accomplices received similarly lengthy terms. But for Sharif, prison has proven to be its own form of punishment.
Inmates at HMP Belmarsh, where violent offenders are housed, reportedly took matters into their own hands. According to prison sources, Sharif was attacked by fellow prisoners using makeshift weapons shortly after his arrival. The assailants, allegedly including convicted murderer Steve Sansom, left Sharif with serious facial injuries requiring stitches.
This violent response reflects the unwritten code among prisoners, who often reserve special contempt for those who harm children. While authorities attempt to protect high-profile inmates like Sharif, the attack suggests his time behind bars may continue to be dangerous.
